COLLABORTAION IS KEY!

Choreographing The Wheel for Hysterica was a kinetic adventure! Collaborating with artist/designer Lara Schnitger truly expanded my way of thinking about structure, movement and design.

Friend and collaborator Diana Koenigsberg captured the creativity in a one of a kind photo shoot featuring choreography, design and performance with dancers Reshma Gajjar, Andy Acosta, Hunter Hamilton, Marlon Pelayo, Justine Clark and Tara Brook.

COLLABORATION IS KEY!

Entelechy premieres on Flaunt

i'm so honored to have been a part of this incredible short film, Entelechy.

The Fantasticks at Pasadena Playhouse

I'm happy to announce that I'll be joining an incredible team of artists in bringing a new production of The Fantasticks to the historic Pasadena Playhouse this September. The new production is helmed by a few AMAZING people that i am very excited to collaborate with...

David O has long been one of Los Angeles’ most respected musical directors.  His work has ranged from LA’s 99-seat theatre scene to the theaters and concert halls of the Music Center, and beyond to major theaters across the U.S. and around the world.

Seema Sueko was brought on as Director at the Pasadena Playhouse in January 2015 after forging a very impressive career and creating a movement to bring more diversity to the theatre.  As well as diversity in audience members, you'll soon see this reflected on stage in this revamped production of The Fantasticks.

Cast to be announced soon.

Opening night is September 11th and the show will run through October 2nd of this year.

RIFT exploratory rehearsals

enjoying a truly collaborative experience with these amazing dancers - katherine, ty, derek, and stephen. anna clyne and i are immersed in the creative development of RIFT for the cabrillo festival. we have a very natural and organic work process together. we exchange recordings of the music and video of the choreography as a fluid artistic dialogue so that we can offer direction and inspiration to each other as the work unfolds...rare indeed!

#gettyinspired

every time i visit the getty i am overwhelmed by the beauty - the art, the architecture, the garden, the view. a few years ago, dance camera west gave me the opportunity to create a piece specifically for the outdoor space. inspired by the interplay of water and architecture, it was a joy to choreograph three dances for such an iconic la landmark. i am honored to be featured on the getty's website for their #gettyinspired campaign: http://www.getty.edu/inspired/kitty-mcnamee/ please take a moment to check it out!

Sylvia

Sometimes you get into a work and things shift...like someone turned the lights out on you...you find yourself searching, reaching for something familiar to hold on to.  Sylvia was one of those pieces. I chose to move forward in the dim, moving only toward the dancers and their experiences. This mystery was a beautiful one to unravel.

thanks to The Antlers for the beauty tune (this was a benefit so we are grateful) and to Edge Performing Arts Center for allowing me to create in their space for all of these years!

beautiful dancers are: Christian Brower, Ty Wells, Toi'ya Leatherwood, Jesse Steidler, Hannah Odgers, Sebastian Mazur and Baden Silva.

Training beautiful dancers

i've been fortunate to have had some amazing dancers come through my class and my rehearsals over the years...this is what i see in the best of them:

  • bravery-they are willing to take risks.
  • passion-their love for dance shines through the pain and sweat.
  • persistence-their passion drives them through the challenging times-never give up.
  • rebellion-the strength to challenge convention separates the great from the good.
  • individuality-my favorite quality! you'll need both bravery and rebellion for this one!
