YOuth lEads the way - #Repost @jess.hiestand ・・・ I’m not an expert on race and revolution by any means, but here are some books I’ve read or am reading that might help broaden your understanding of race as well as class, gender, and sexuality- ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘵𝘰 𝘉𝘦 an 𝘈𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘴𝘵 by Ibram X. Kendi is most relevant for the current revolution and educational for all (even if you’re POC and have experienced racism). ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ My favorites to read are 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘳 𝘗𝘶𝘳𝘱𝘭𝘦 and 𝘈𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵. Both will challenge popular notions about sexuality while also introducing you to race based issues/colonization/immigration/more. ⁣⁣ I hope I don’t have to introduce you to the classic 𝘐 𝘒𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘢 𝘊𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘥 𝘉𝘪𝘳𝘥 𝘚𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 or the highly popular 𝘉𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 𝘉𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘔𝘦𝘹𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘈𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯 is very educational, and I recommend reading this or something like this esp if you’re an Angeleno. but I will say it’s more dry. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 𝘈𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢 𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵 is MANDATORY if you’re younger and any percent Filipino I’m just sayin. While I don’t necessarily agree with his closing statement/think I will apply them today. This semi-personal narrative will show you why we HAVE to stand with Black Americans. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 𝘔𝘪𝘯𝘰𝘳 𝘍𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 discusses race from a Korean American perspective, first 2 sections were amazing, but I just started it. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Finally 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘹𝘪𝘴𝘮- 𝘈 𝘎𝘳𝘢𝘱𝘩𝘪𝘤 𝘎𝘶𝘪𝘥𝘦 is what I used when I needed a brush up when it had been awhile since I took philosophy, but I’d reccommend reading original works. If you want to focus on race rn, works from the Combahee River Collective might be better for you in studying race, class, and gender.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣
